About

Hello, I’m Vicki, the woman behind The Female Boss.

I am a full time wheelchair user living with many health conditions, I am a disabled activist, business owner and lover of all animals.

I was born with a life limiting incurable muscle wasting disease called congenital muscular dystrophy. I had very little muscle tone causing me to be extremely floppy when I was born. When they delivered me I unfortunately had an arm and leg broken where I was so fragile. After a few years I was then diagnosed with scoliosis which is curvature of the spine, my spine was in an S shape causing my body to twist and my heart and lungs were being crushed, therefore had corrective surgery at the age of 14 where they placed metal rods to try and straighten my spine as much as they could.

The doctors told my parents that due to the severity of my condition that I would not be able to ever walk – I proved them wrong and I was walking from a young age.   Up until my early 20s my life was pretty good. I was very independent and started driving from the age of 16 which I am super proud of. I was able to work full-time job and I moved into my own flat when I was just 18. However I started to deteriorate when I was in my early 20s. I am now a full time wheelchair user and unable to look after myself I need 24 hour care. I am unable to walk after having a blood clot in my leg a few years ago, I have swallowing difficulties and I have a superpubic catheter which I have had for quite a few years now. I was diagnosed with a rare condition called Klippel-Feil syndrome this is where all the muscles in my neck have fused and I am unable to move my neck much anymore because it causes excruciating pain. Along with Arthritis, I suffer with chronic pain throughout my whole body and I am on a number of pain medications to try and manage the pain I suffer with.

At the age of 19 I met Keegan, we met through a dating app nearly 20 years ago and have been together ever since. Keegan is my full-time carer and I'm very lucky to have such a lovely caring man in my life. We live in our flat together with our two animals.  We have our little rescue dog called Minnie and our cat Ziggy.

I have always been the girl with lots of notebooks, but I've always been a little disorganised and I never write anything down despite all the notebooks. With all of the different hospital appointments I have across about five different hospitals it's hard to keep track. Along with social activities with friends and family.

I decided to design myself a planner which was tailored to my needs, my friends and family thought it was great and they said to me that I should sell them and that's when my small business idea came to life.

I hope you will love my small business as much as I do.

Love, Vicki
